Ronnie Barnum Scheffler 1950-2009

Ronnie Barnum Scheffler, 58, died Aug. 21 at his home in Ocean Park, Wash.
Born Dec. 9, 1950, he was the son of John E. and Mary Jo Scheffler of Shelby County, both deceased.
His survivors include his sons Michael Scheffler of Kansas City, Mo., and Shawn Scheffler (Jayneen) of Roach, Mo., his sisters Sheila Piunti (Rick) of Neenah, Wisc., Idella Naether (Friedrich) of Spencer, Ind., Mary Jane McKnight of Kansas City, Mo., and Beverly Heller (Rick) of Laurie, Mo., his eight grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and Uncle Gene (Joan) Scheffler.
Ron graduated from Southwestern High School in 1969. Ron lived most of his life in the Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash., area, then spent several years in Missouri before recently returning to Washington.
Ron’s life passion was animals and especially birds. As a young boy, he was involved with a wide variety of farm animals and a large flock of pigeons.
Throughout his life, he continued working with animals and birds.
His friends often referred to him as “The Bird Man”. He raised, bred, and trained various macaw showbirds and presented bird shows in Missouri, Indiana and Washington.
Oceanside memorial services will be held on Sept.6 in Ocean Park and memorial services will be held on Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. at Opened Door Christian Fellowship in Laurie, with Rev. Steven Shawn Scheffler officiating.
